NGS - Technologies & Future Applications - 2012

NGS_Banner_v1_5_600x200_HQ

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

Every month technological barriers are broken in the field of sequencing and several benefits derive from these new achievements. Amongst these, the availability of inexpensive and accessible technology for use in a variety of biology/health care research areas, as well as in environmental, safety and legal domains, is notable. There remain challenges to be solved, however, such as the management, the interpretation and beneficial use of the produced data. Nonetheless these new breakthroughs provide a clear path forward to sequencing paradigms that will make a huge impact even in everyday life.

This meeting aims to bring together worldwide experts in the field, with a particular focus on future technologies and applications. The talks will combine provider updates on coming improvements as well as presentations from scientific experts on recent discoveries and applications.

SPEAKERS PROGRAMME

Keynote Speaker -   Patrick Chain, LANL

Patrick is the Team Leader of Next Gen Sequencing and Metagenomics Applications within the Genome Science Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).   The team's primarily goals revolve around the development of bioinformatic methods to derive meaningful biological information from next gen technologies, particularly in the fields of microbial, single cell and metagenomics. He also serves as the DOE Joint Genome Institute-LANL lead working on microbial genome improvement and metagenome assembly.

We are very privileged to have Patrick as our Keynote Speaker.

He has been in the microbial and metagenomics fields for >10yrs and is talking about 'Exploring the Microbial World - Using NGS'.

By car from the North: Leave the M11 at junction 10 (note that M11 junction 9 is restricted and accessible from the South only). Travel a mile or so on the A505 in the direction of Saffron Walden to a roundabout and take the third exit (A1301 towards Saffron Waldron). Pass two turnings to Hinxton, and take the next right, a small roundabout, signposted to Genome Campus.

By Train: Cambridge is on the main line from London Kings Cross. Whittlesford, Great Chesterford and Audley End stations are on the line from London Liverpool Street to Cambridge. Journey time from London is under an hour.

Please note that Whittlesford and Great Chesterford stations do not have a taxi rank or telephone. Please use either Cambridge or Audley End stations if a taxi has not been pre-booked.
