Assay development and compound screening - Synopsis
High throughput screening (HTS) is an established activity in many academic and most drug discovery organizations. It is also a scientific endeavor continually impacted by new developments in assay chemistry and biology, detection technology, automation and informatics. Recent developments in all these areas have changed the manner in which compounds are screened and subsequently optimized for novel drug discovery.
This session therefore addresses the impact of several new technologies on high throughput screening (HTS). It will also describe how HTS is currently practiced with an emphasis on the problems of integrating novel techniques with existing approaches.

Finally, given the increasing productivity pressure on the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries, the session will discuss the impact of assay technology on reducing compound attrition in drug discovery.
