ELRIG excited to be a part of the Pint of Science festival
Pint of Science is a worldwide science festival which brings researchers to pubs/cafes/spaces to share their scientific discoveries. The festival provides a space for researchers and members of the public to come together and chat about research in a relaxed environment outside the traditional lab or lecture theatre. In 2013, the first Pint of Science events were held in three cities. Today they are held in more than 500 cities worldwide.

We’re delighted to be taking part in the Cambridge event this year, presenting on ‘Inventing Modern Day Drugs’, with experienced industry insiders sharing the lowdown on the latest drug discovery tools and technologies.
At this informal event, attendees will hear more about our work to bring the life sciences and drug discovery communities together, as well as unique insights from two industry leaders:
- Steve Rees OBE, Vice President of Discovery Biology at AstraZeneca, and one of our Scientific Advisory Board members
- Thibault Laurent, Technical Specialist in CRISPR Engineering from Synthego
They’ll share their experience of applying state-of-the-art technologies such as CRISPR and automation to the drug discovery research journey, as well as insights into how the next generation of treatments are being developed.
Why we’ve teamed up with Pint of Science
Pint of Science is a fantastic opportunity for scientists and non-scientists who are curious about the life sciences to learn about working at the forefront of innovation in the pharma and biotech industries and for all participants to establish new contacts in the field.
Their mission remains the same: to allow everyone the opportunity to share their thoughts, questions, and ideas, and to push forward research and trust in science by encouraging open and transparent conversations.
This aligns with our organisation’s purpose to bring the life sciences and drug discovery communities together to learn, share, innovate and collaborate in an open-access setting. By working with Pint of Science we hope to increase awareness and knowledge of the drug development process among life scientists and non-scientists alike.
Our collaboration with Pint of Science is also an ideal forum for us to serve such a diverse scientific network and connect these different communities.
“ELRIG’s purpose is to promote collaboration and networking within the drug discovery community, which we normally do by organising scientific events for our 12,000 strong community. The POS event offers us the chance to share our innovative solutions to developing new medicines with the broader community- many of whom are not scientists. Public awareness of what we do and how we do it so important, now more than ever, so we are thrilled that Steve and Synthego will be speaking on our behalf. We are looking forward to seeing some of our members at this more social event and to raising the voice of ELRIG beyond our scientific community.” – Chris Williams, ELRIG Board Member
About upcoming ELRIG events:
Our collaboration with Pint of Science is just one of a series of open-access events that we provide to connect life sciences and drug discovery communities. We deliver outstanding scientific content through a series of conferences, webinars, and networking events to equip scientists with knowledge of the latest cutting-edge research areas that have the potential to revolutionize drug discovery.
When you participate in one of our free-of-charge events, you’ll join a global community of over 12,000 life science professionals, with the opportunity to exchange information, across multiple disciplines within both academic and biopharmaceutical organisations.
