Every delegate badge scanned, every stand built, and every journey made to Drug Discovery 2026 is a chance to choose the greener option. ELRIG’s Sustainability Workgroup have created an easy list of sustainable choices you take to make a difference before, during, and after the show.

Getting There Sustainably

How you travel to the event matters, and getting to ExCeL sustainably is easier than you might think:

• Public transport is the greenest way in. The Elizabeth Line to Custom House and the DLR to Prince Regent both drop you just a few minutes walk from the venue.
• Cycling is a great option if you’re local, with 60 bike racks available near the west entrance.
• Driving? Carpool where you can, or bring an electric vehicle (on-site charging points are available).
• Staying nearby? Walking from your accommodation is the simplest way to cut your footprint entirely.
• Coming from Europe? Take the Eurostar into King’s Cross instead of flying.

Choosing Sustainable Accommodation

We encourage people to use accommodation within a walkable distance and sustainable providers where possible. On many websites, including booking.com, you can filter for accommodation with a sustainability certifications such as Green Key, Green Globe, EarthCheck, Travelife and many more. 

Going Paperless

To help cut down on printed materials, ELRIG encourages everyone attending Drug Discovery 2026 to use the event app to access the agenda and event information. This will help us reduce the number of paper programmes produced and used in future years. 

Rethinking Promotional Merchandise

Giveaways with your brand on them are a great way to keep your company in the minds of delegates after ELRIG events, however single-use items don’t last long, so you should consider:

• Keep your brand in the delegate’s mind by having products that will last a long time, such as coasters and notebooks.
• Avoid common items that people already have. Are your kitchen cupboards already overflowing with waster bottles, and can you fit any more shopping bags in your car!?
• Consider the supply chain. Items made in the UK help to reduce transportation related emissions.

Building a More Sustainable Stand

Great looking stands are important to showcase your organisation, but they may not be the best thing for the environment. Consider a few simple things to make your stand more sustainable.

• Many graphic options are reusable such as roller banners and lightboxes.
• Furniture, including cabinets can be hired and/or reconditioned and re-used.
• Modular stands can be a good choice to achieve a consistent look across multiple shows with different stand sizes.
