Life sciences, and drug discovery in particular, has seen an explosion of novel ways to manipulate and modulate biological systems. These systems have become increasingly complex including multiple cell types, physical environments, changing conditions and multi-dimensional readouts. These advances are creating the need for new solutions to automate the use of such biological systems at scale. This track aims to present the latest innovations in laboratory automation and their application to life sciences, diagnostic and drug discovery.
Auditorium 2
In vitro and in silico models for sustainable drug discovery.
Track Chairs: Anthony Holmes & Aurelie Thomas
This track will discuss sustainable practices in drug discovery, focusing on advanced cell and in silico models. These models have the potential to reduce reliance on animal testing, enhancing sustainability and delivering human-specific data for better translational success. By encouraging cross-disciplinary dialogue, the session aims to advance actionable solutions for a more sustainable future in drug research.
Auditorium 3
From bench to brain: hit-finding approaches in neurodegenerative disease therapeutics in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Research UK
Track Chairs: Emma Armstrong, Emma Murphy & Andrew Lim
The impact of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease is getting more prominent as the public health cost increases due to the aging population. Despite the recent approval of disease modifying biologics, the discovery of new therapeutics against neurodegenerative diseases remains challenging. This session focuses on various strategies to identify and validate hits from screening campaigns against targets associated with neurodegenerative pathogenesis and methods to elucidate their mechanism of action. Additionally, the session will look into the breadth of biological models used in screening campaigns, the variety of modalities being investigated and the application of automation and high-throughput screening concepts.

The Viewing Terrace
Use of novel technologies to enable drug discovery and drug repurposing in collaboration with the British Pharmacological Society
Track Chairs: Munir Pirmohamed & Reecha Sofat
Content Partner
Drug discovery and development remains an expensive process, beset with many failures. Drug repurposing also has its challenges. It is therefore important to develop or refine novel methodologies and technologies to improve success rates in drug discovery and drug repurposing. We live in an age where this is now possible. This track will focus on technologies such as genomics, proteomics and AI, and how they are being employed for drug discovery and drug repurposing, with the talks being given by world-leading researchers from different professional backgrounds.
